Lt. Col. Kim D. Staley - Superintendent
Welcome to Moss Point School District, where I am honored to serve as superintendent. Along with input from my staff, teachers, and community members, we have implemented a number of exciting changes that will lead us to level 5 - - the highest accreditation level achievable in the state of Mississippi. The development of a new curriculum team, headed by our new assistant superintendent, Janice Thomas (a proven level 5 principal), advances in technology through our four million dollar Cisco grant, and a new focus on community involvement are just a few examples of great strides forward. Indeed, we've planned for a great year!
I have spent much of my profession educating and mentoring children. My career started as a middle school Science teacher and progressed to an assistant principal, principal, director of operations and now superintendent. I also have a strong military background with more than twenty years dedicated to serving my country. The military has provided me with a unique experience of traveling the world and seeing many cultures. The leadership skills I gained in the service are most invaluable. My goal is to take the education and experience I have been fortunate to receive and give it back to the children of Moss Point. We want our students to be well-rounded, knowledgeable, and able to succeed in a fast-paced, multi-cultural society.
As an educational leader, I have always stressed the 3 R's: Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships. A rigorous curriculum is essential, and we must ensure that our program of study not only meets, but exceeds Mississippi and national standards. We must also make certain the content of instruction is relevant to our students by making connections to life experiences. Relationships are an integral piece of developing the total student. Interpersonal and communication skills are vital not only for independent work, but also for the work of a team, made up of diverse individuals with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. The military has taught me a strong sense of personal accountability, and my goal is to hold this same standard to the employees and students of the Moss Point School District.
